THE PENNYWISE GADGETS:
PENNYWISE uses INTUITION, the AMIGA's powerful and friendly user interface.
All screens have 'gadgets' that are selected with the MOUSE pointer
and (usually) clicking the left mouse button.
There are three types of gadgets, one that you select with the mouse
pointer and left button to set a certain condition. For example, in
the Transaction Types window there is a gadget which indicates that
the transaction type is a DEBIT TRANSACTION. Selecting it will make it
indicate that it is a CREDIT TRANSACTION. Selecting it once more
resets it to CREDIT.
The second gadget is the 'STRING' gadget... the one you enter data into.
The STRING gadget appears as a 'box' either empty or perhaps
displaying some text. Select a position within the box an click. A
cursor appears. Enter some (appropriate) data. Notice that the cursor
is confined to the box. When done, press [RETURN]. In PENNYWISE, if
the current window has a subsequent STRING gadget the cursor moves to
it automatically. Clicking the mouse somewhere else in the window
moves removes the cursor from the string gadget.
Incidentally, RIGHT AMIGA & [X] clears an active string gadget, RIGHT
AMIGA & Q restores its previous values.
Finally, there is the PROPORTIONAL GADGET. It consists of a vertical
box enclosing a 'KNOB' which can be moved with mouse pointer while
holding down the left button. As the 'KNOB' is moved and released,
data in the window is adjusted accordingly. A good example is the
TRANSACTION SELECTION WINDOW. When there are more transactions than
the window can display the 'KNOB' represents the proportion of the
total you are seeing. Move the knob to move up or down the transaction list.
